Potrivit apnews.com, șeful Agenției Internaționale pentru Energie, Fatih Birol, a declarat luni că economia globală se confruntă cu o „amenințare majoră” din cauza războiului din Iran. Birol a făcut aceste declarații la Clubul Național de Presă din Canberra, Australia.

Birol a explicat că criza din Orientul Mijlociu afectează petrolul mai grav decât cele două crize petroliere din anii 1970 la un loc și are un impact mai sever asupra gazului decât războiul Rusia-Ucraina. Israelul a lansat o nouă serie de atacuri împotriva Teheranului, iar președintele american Donald Trump a avertizat că Statele Unite vor „obliterarea” uzinelor electrice iraniene dacă Teheranul nu deschide complet Strâmtoarea Ormuz în termen de 48 de ore. Aceasta a determinat Iranul să declare că va răspunde la orice atac cu atacuri asupra activelor energetice și infrastructurale ale Statelor Unite și Israelului.

Pe fundalul creșterii prețurilor la petrol, Trump se confruntă cu o presiune din ce în ce mai mare acasă pentru a asigura deschiderea strâmtorii. O mare temere este că războiul ar putea întrerupe producția de petrol și gaz în Orientul Mijlociu pentru o perioadă îndelungată, ceea ce ar însemna că prețurile ridicate ar putea persista și ar putea provoca o inflație în întreaga lume. Birol a menționat că, până în prezent, 40 de active energetice din nouă țări din regiune au fost „sever sau foarte sever” afectate. „Unele dintre arterele vitale ale economiei globale, cum ar fi petrochimicele, fertilizatorii, sulfura și heliul — comerțul lor a fost întrerupt, ceea ce ar avea consecințe serioase pentru economia globală”, a declarat acesta.

El a adăugat că Agenția Internațională pentru Energie a eliberat anterior 400 de milioane de barili de petrol pentru a „liniști piețele”, ceea ce este un precedent istoric. „Cea mai importantă soluție pentru această problemă este deschiderea Strâmtorii Ormuz, așa cum stau lucrurile acum”, a spus Birol. Oficialul a mai menționat că se consultă cu guverne din Europa, Asia, America de Nord și Orientul Mijlociu cu privire la perspectiva eliberării unor rezerve suplimentare de petrol.
