Sonic Frontiers a dus seria într-o nouă direcție când a fost lansat în 2022 cu designul său "open-zone", iar se pare că Sega nu a terminat complet cu aceasta... conform nintendolife.com. Comitetul de Evaluare și Administrare a Jocurilor din Coreea a clasificat recent Sonic Frontiers Definitive Edition.

Până în prezent, platformele și alte detalii nu au fost dezvăluite. Lansările edițiilor definitive nu sunt neobișnuite pentru titlurile Sonic în ultimii ani. De asemenea, ni se amintește cum Sonic Origins Plus a fost anterior scurs prin același comitet de evaluare a jocurilor.
